Army RangerSGT Patrick Christopher Hawkins
Sgt. Patrick Christopher Hawkins, 25, was killed by an improvised explosive device while conducting combat operations against enemy forces in Kandahar Province, Afghanistan.
Sgt. Hawkins was a Team Leader assigned to Company B, 3rd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment at Fort Benning, Ga. He was on his fourth deployment to Afghanistan in support of the War on Terror.
He was born Oct. 1, 1988. After graduating from Carlisle High School, Hawkins enlisted in the U.S. Army February 2010 from his hometown of Carlisle, Pa. He completed One Station Unit Training at Fort Benning, Ga., as an infantryman. After graduating from the Basic Airborne Course there, he was assigned to the Ranger Assessment and Selection Program also at Fort Benning.
Following graduation from the Ranger Assessment and Selection Program, Hawkins was assigned to Company B, 3rd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment September 2010 where he served as a Rifleman, a Gun Team Leader and a Team Leader.
His military education includes the Basic Airborne Course, the Ranger Assessment and Selection Program, the U.S. Army Ranger Course and the Warrior Leader Course.
His awards and decorations include the Ranger Tab, the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Parachutist Badge and the U.S. Army Expert Rifle Marksmanship Qualification Badge.
Hawkins has also been awarded the Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal with two Campaign Stars, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, the NATO Medal, and the Presidential Unit Citation.
He was posthumously awarded the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal and Purple Heart.
Hawkins is survived by his wife, Brittanie M. Hawkins, of Lansing, Kan., and his parents, Roy and Shelia Hawkins, of Carlisle, Pa.
As a Ranger, Sgt. Patrick Christopher Hawkins selflessly lived his life for others and distinguished himself as a member of the Army’s premier direct action raid force, continuously deployed in support of the Global War on Terror, and fought valiantly as he served his fellow Rangers and our great Nation.
